June 10 and 11
8-9:30 p.m. | Te Ata Theater
Presented by RACE Dance Collective in partnership with Oklahoma Contemporary
RACE Dance Collective’s illume was a multi-genre dance experience about various aspects of humanhood. The program was comprised of three sections exploring the five stages of grief, our personal philosophies or belief systems and our ability to be protectors of joy. illume not only asked the audience to watch, but to also contribute their own light to the space. Section one began with disambiguation, examining the stages of grief through the works of five different choreographers. The second section examined individual perceptions of an “ism” (a distinctive practice system or philosophy). The third section was a joyful collaboration between RACE Dance Collective, hip-hop artist Original Flow and hip-hop brass band The S.E.A.R.C.H. Committee.
