Born to a Muslim father and a Christian mother in what is now considered to be Boko Haram territory, Inua Ellams left Nigeria for England in 1996 at age 12, moved to Ireland for three years and returned to London to work as a writer and graphic designer.

In An Evening With an Immigrant, Ellams tells his ridiculous, fantastic, poignant story — littered with poems and anecdotes — of escaping fundamentalist Islam, experiencing prejudice and friendship in Dublin, performing solo at the National Theatre, and drinking wine with the Queen of England, all without a country to belong to or place to call home.

COVID PROTOCOLS: The health and safety of our audience, staff and artists is of upmost importance to OKC Rep. In line with protocols adopted by theaters across the country and direct consultation with infectious disease specialists, we have developed the following policies: All patrons must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken 72 hours prior to the start of the performance. A physical vaccination card or a photo of a physical vaccination card will be accepted. Masks are required for all guests and must be worn during the performance and reception unless actively eating or drinking.

About the Artist
Inua Ellams is an award-winning poet, playwright, performer, graphic artist and designer. His published books of poetry include Candy Coated Unicorns and Converse All Stars, Thirteen Fairy Negro Tales, The Wire-Headed Heathen, #Afterhours and The Half-God of Rainfall — an epic story in verse.

He recently completed his first full poetry collection, The Actual, and is working on several commissions across stage and screen.
