Jen Lewin's interactive lightscape opens in Campbell Art Park
Light is an essential part of the new Oklahoma Contemporary. From the building's reflective aluminum fins capturing the ever-changing Oklahoma sky to the illuminating Bright Golden Haze inaugural exhibition, the unique quality of light in our home state is an essential part of your new arts center.
Few works in Oklahoma Contemporary's inaugural group show embody its themes of light and place quite like Jen Lewin's Aqueous. Installed in Campbell Art Park, just outside our new state-of-the-art facility, this imaginative installation is a literal light landscape — a swirling pageant of vivid color changing with each footstep across its winding surface.
"I compose a base palette of these lights, but it doesn't come to life with true illumination — the full 'bright golden haze' — until people are actually in the work," Lewin said. "It's about illuminating this park, but also illuminating the humans in the park."
Lewin's celebration of light is open until 11 p.m. daily through Oct. 19 at our new home at NW 11th and Broadway. Until you're able to stop by and experience it for yourself, check out this dazzling video to get a sense of what you can expect from this interactive light sculpture in the heart of Oklahoma City.
