Studio School presents a varied schedule of performance classes, workshops, readings, lectures and master classes. These courses represent contemporary and interdisciplinary approaches to music, theater and dance.

Eight-Week Class | Basics of Home Recording

This course will assist musicians, songwriters, producers and composers in recording and releasing their music (or others') from home in an easy and affordable — yet highly professional — manner. Students will learn the science behind how sound works in recording spaces, techniques for using microphones and recording hardware and software, how digital-audio workstation software functions and how to get fantastic results without breaking the bank. Basics of Home Recording is a great place to start for those looking to begin recording and producing music. Registration closes Sunday, June 27 at 11:59 p.m.

An exciting first step into the world of DJing, DJ School dives into the ins and outs of what DJing is, where it began and where it can take you. Technical skills addressed include switch grooving, scratching, mixing and more, in both digital and vinyl contexts. Whether you want to be the life of the party or a professional in the industry, DJ School is where your next level begins. No experience necessary and all you need to bring is a pair of wired headphones! Registration closes on Sunday, June 27 at 11:59 p.m.


Eight-Week Class | Free Improvisation

In this course, students will practice the art of free improvisation in a collaborative ensemble context, culminating in a live, improvised performance on the last day of class. Beginning with simple musical games and exercises, students will learn the basic techniques of improvisation and musical communication, eventually understanding how to structure a long-form piece of music without prior planning. In addition, students will engage with improvisatory music of the past 50 years and explore alternative forms of musical expression, including extended techniques, found sounds and wordplay. Registration closes on Sunday, June 27 at 11:59 p.m.
