This is a hands-on and online course where students will learn the basics of sound design in the Pro Tools digital audio workstation. Beginning with a guided tour of the software, students will learn how to start projects, navigate the interface and manage tracks and audio clips. Using Pro Tools only, students will explore various ways to make music through editing audio, utilizing MIDI with virtual instrumentation and creating soundscapes. With an instructional emphasis on creativity and experimentation, students will navigate through different styles of electronic music and identify innovative techniques in order to produce and complete their own creative projects. As a course goal, students are directed to attain a firm grasp of the essential functions of the software and confidence in utilizing Pro Tools to create music independently. Course requirements: Each participant is responsible for furnishing a computer with video conference capability and installing and licensing their own software (detailed instructions will be provided at the beginning of class). A Midi keyboard is required for this course and a limited number of devices are available for free. In person checkout is first come first serve.
