Fiber Arts

Oklahoma Contemporary offers the very best in fiber arts classes, workshops and opportunities for independent exploration. Located in The Studios building, the Fiber Art Studio features many floor and frame looms, as well as materials and equipment for dyeing. Fiber Arts instructors also offer courses in embroidery, sewing and other creative and contemporary applications of fiber traditions.

Four-Week Class | Experimental Costume Sewing

Join sewing extraordinaire Amber Layne in this four-week class discovering the creative possibilities of costume sewing. Students will learn to sew with decorative threads and conductive lights. At the end of the course, students will know basic sewing skills required in constructing a costume cape. Registration closes Sunday, Oct. 17 at 11:59 p.m.

Denim pants with patches, thread, and needle cushion

Join fiber artist Darci Lenker and discover the basics of embroidery through visible mending, a set of techniques that extends the life of well-loved items and helps the environment and human rights through more ethical consumption of fast fashion. Students will learn the Japanese Boro technique of Sashiko to repair and embellish clothing and other visible mending approaches, including making patches and darning, as well as how to repair buttons and replace zippers. Registration closes Sunday, Oct. 17 at 11:59 p.m.
