Throughout the year, expert Studio School instructors present classes and workshops in painting, drawing, printmaking and design for students of all levels. Students work with industry-standard equipment and materials, such as professional painting and drawing easels, lighting and an etching printmaking press.

SP23 Bad At Drawing

You’re not bad at drawing. Everyone can draw. When you draw, you bring things into existence. (Woah.) Join us to draw new possibilities for yourself and others. Doesn’t that sound more fun than the voice in your head that says you can’t draw? Shut up, head voice. Artists Isa Rodriguez and Dylan Cale Jones will teach you how to draw using laughter, smudging, tracing and scribbling. We know you know can scribble. You knew how to scribble before you knew how to stop using diapers. Old skill—you got this.

Prerequisites: Beginners welcome! No experience necessary.

Artist and instructor and Chris Brizzard believes that anyone can learn to draw if they are taught the correct way. Join this fun and supportive class to learn basic drawing principles, such as shape, proportion, blocking in forms and depicting light and shadow. If you start the class not knowing how to draw, you will end the class drawing from life!

Make your own merch! Printmaker Wesley Kramer will teach you how to use woodcut printmaking to print on T-shirts, totes, coasters, stickers, and more. No printmaking experience necessary.

SP23 Watercolor Photo

Work with artist Jenny Elton to transform the pics on your phone into custom watercolor paintings. No painting experience necessary. All you need are some photographs, and if you don’t have any, just pretend all the stuff on Instagram is your real life.

Workshop | Draw Live Animals at Mollie Spencer Farm

SP23 Mollie

The Mollie Spencer Farm (in Yukon) promotes the health, well-being and humane treatment of animals while also providing refuge for a few farm animals and natural occurring wildlife.

Artist Claire Holloway will show you how to create quick graphite sketches of live animals and then use pastel to add color.

Participants will meet at Mollie Spencer Farm. Transportation to the farm is not included.

Registration closes April 24.

If the workshop is postponed due to weather or unforeseen instructor circumstances, the rain date is May 6.

SP23 Warhol Watercolor

Be inspired by the Andy Warhol work in The Art of Food exhibition. Learn to create your own compositions in early Andy Warhol style. Artist Sylvie Mayer will show you how to make blotted ink illustrations and add color using watercolor.

No drawing or watercolor experience needed. Be your own Warhol—bananas and Campbell’s Soup can not included.
