In her role as development officer, Tara Heitz works to support Oklahoma Contemporary’s fundraising efforts. She focuses on engaging a portfolio of supporters, managing the Corporate Council and coordinating a slate of special events.

Before joining Oklahoma Contemporary, Tara served as a development associate at Allied Arts, working with their robust employee-giving program. Prior to development work, she spent 17 years teaching middle school and high school band in Edmond Public Schools. As an educator, Tara is considered an expert in beginning woodwind instruction and was highly sought after as a mentor to student teachers across the Oklahoma City metro.

Additionally, Tara is also second clarinetist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, a position she has held since 2009. She is a past finalist in the International Clarinet Association’s orchestral competition. Along with symphonic performances, she can often be found in the orchestra pit for Oklahoma City Ballet and Lyric Theatre productions.

Tara is a native Oklahoman. She received her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2002. She lives in Edmond with her band director husband, two kids and two rambunctious dogs.
